SkipMeal is a program run by Youth Mission Outreach with the goal of decreasing the needs in the City of Poughkeepsie and its surrounding areas. The money donated from each and every person is used to directly address the needs of youth and their families.
YMO and SkipMeal want to feed the spirit and the body. You may be surprised to know that food insecurity in Poughkeepsie is 12.3 percent higher than the national average. This means more than one in four households does not have regular access or funds to purchase nutritious food or, in most cases, food at all. Also, a recent census showed that 12 percent of children in Dutchess County live in poverty. This is clearly unacceptable.
It is our passion to bring awareness and change to the growing number of needy families. We created this program for those in need throughout our community; for children whose parents can’t afford to feed them in this tough economy; for children who have been emotionally and physically abused; for children like Caesar Bell who had to watch his family fall apart at a young age due to a drug addicted parent. For over twenty years we have and will continue to dedicate ourselves to helping those in need.
To partner with us to change the lives of our youth and give them the opportunity to have a brighter future. We believe a better tomorrow starts with the youth of today. Together we can make a difference; you can skip a meal and donate the money you would have spent on that meal, you can get a group of friends/family/coworkers together and collectively skip a meal and donate the money, you can enjoy a nice meal and STILL donate money or you can visit one of the donation “can” sites.
Skipmeal has provided many families with love and support.
I have seen SkipMeal in action over the years, serving so many people in Poughkeepsie, including myself. I am forever grateful for the love and support I've received from SkipMeal. They truly know what's going on in our back yard.
